How to Fight Acne

There are a lot of acne treatment regimens but only a few succeed in treating moderate to severe cases of acne on the first month of treatment. There are several things that you ought to know when fighting acne and these fundamental steps can help you make your acne treatment regimen more effective.

Know what You are Doing

One of the first things that you need is the knowledge of what acne is, how it is formed and the most effective way to treat and prevent it. Not knowing the basics is like going to war without a weapon. Let’s start with acne.

Acne is a skin condition that affects individuals in all ages in all walks of life. It does not choose a certain age group, though may be common among teenagers, or choose any race. It can appear anywhere on your body but most likely appears on areas where there is a concentration of sebaceous glands.

Acne starts when your immune system tries to contain the bacterial over growth. The acne causing bacteria is actually a natural bacteria that is found normally on your skin. This bacteria is not enough to cause the signs and symptoms of acne. When there is an over production of oil, combined with clumped up dead skin cells, it creates a plug in your pores preventing the oil produced from coming out. Because of these excess oil, the bacteria found at the bottom of your pores have now the power to replicate and multiply.

In order to stop acne, you need to address the over production of oil, control bacterial overgrowth and at the same time remove dead skin cells that clog your pores.

Three Basic Treatments for Acne

There are three basic things that you need to fight acne. The first one is a cleanser. Your cleanser should contain active ingredients that will help you remove dead skin cells from your pores. This is absolutely important so that the following treatments can penetrate deep down and get rid of the acne causing bacteria.

The second treatment is the toner. Toners can help you dissolve hardened oil that plugs your pores. It also helps slough off dead skin cells. Toners help rejuvenate your skin leaving your skin smooth and fresh.

Finally, you need to have serum that contains active ingredients to kill acne. You can either use a serum that contains benzoyl peroxide or tea tree oil. Both of these ingredients are proven to be effective in fighting the acne causing bacteria. However, if you have sensitive skin, I recommend that you use tea tree oil instead of benzoyl peroxide treatments.
